Moving to a new country can bring many questions and uncertainties. Having someone who understands the experience and can share practical advice can make a meaningful difference.
Canada Connect helps you build a supportive connection before you arrive so you can feel more informed, confident, and prepared to begin your settlement journey in Canada.
SOPA’s Canada Connect / Community Connect Program supports pre-arrival clients as they prepare to begin their new lives in Canada. The program connects participants with established community members who can share their knowledge, experiences, and practical insights to help make the transition to Canada easier and more welcoming.
This program focuses on supporting youth, women, and refugees through meaningful connections with volunteer mentors who are already settled in Canada.
Participants are matched with mentors based on factors such as:
- Destination city or province
- Gender
- Age
- Preferred language
- Professional or career background
- Shared interests and experiences
Mentors and clients typically connect weekly or bi-weekly through virtual meetings, creating a supportive space to ask questions, exchange experiences, and prepare for life in Canada.
